Southern Colorado Missions

Orthodoxy is growing throughout America, and Colorado is no exception.  The Rocky Mountain Deanery of the Orthodox Church in America would like to establish a new mission in our state, and while many of the candidates are in Northern Colorado, there are several areas in Southern Colorado that Father Barnabas is willing to serve.  This in only a partial listing:

Durango.  Father Barnabas is presently in contact with one family (nine Orthodox Christians) in Durango, a fairly cosmopolitan town with a growing population and economy, nestled in one of the most beautiful parts of our state.  With the nearest established community in Delta, Durango will have to have an Orthodox mission eventually.  It's only a matter of interest and effort.

Trinidad/Raton.  There was historically a large Montenegrin colony in Raton, NM, that clergy from Pueblo served as an extension of the parish.  With growth in the Trinidad-Raton area, potential for an Orthodox community with regular services exists here.  Father Barnabas is presently in contact with five families (ten Orthodox Christians) in the area.

La Junta/Las Animas/Lamar.  Heading east from Pueblo, you won't find an established Orthodox community until Garden City, KS.  The Lower Arkansas River Valley certainly has potential for a mission.  Father Barnabas is presently in contact with one inquirer, in Las Animas.

Alamosa/Monte Vista.  With Adams State College, a growing  population and a great deal of scenic beauty, the San Luis Valley deserves to be sanctified by Orthodox prayers.  Father Barnabas is presently in contact with one Orthodox believer here.

If you live in Southern Colorado, but think you're too far from an Orthodox church, think again.  Whether you're already Orthodox, or are simply interested in learning more about the Apostolic Faith, Father Barnabas would love to hear from you.  This list of potential sites is not exhaustive.  We will not neglect any opportunity to spread the Orthodox Christian Faith.
